I want to see the strongest possible Young Labour in London and across the UK.
Sam's record of campaigning for social justice at home and internationally speaks for itself. In my experience Sam puts his all into everything he does and gets positive results.
That is why I have confidence in Sam Tarry as someone who would make a great Chair for Young Labour.

I have worked with Sam for the past two years on the London Young Labour executive. Sam has always been extremely supportive of the initiatives and events that I have organised for the LYL women. His work on the Hope Not Hate campaign is particularly commendable and I am delighted to support his progressive campaign.
Tulip Siddiq
Women's Officer, London Young Labour |

Sam is a very inclusive, welcoming and genuine leader, characteristics vital in any efforts to reach out to new members and build Young Labour. Sam has a proven track record that can help make Young Labour a more inclusive organisation that appeals to all young people - from environment or anti-poverty campaigners to trade unionists - who care about social justice.
David Taylor
South East Rep, Co-operative Party Youth NEC |
 |
I have met Sam on numerous occasions in Britain, Spain, Belgium and elsewhere; not only he is a great campaigner and organiser but also I can say that Sam is one of the most commited fighters for Social Justice that I have ever known. I am sure that Sam is the leader we need for a strong Young Labour.

Sam is an avowed anti-racist campaigner and Labour to the core.
Tom Watson MP

In my dealings with Sam, he has continually made a concerted effort to reach outside of the London bubble. His recognition that for our organisation to be genuinely effective, requires the engagement of all Young Labour members across Britain, is a breath of fresh air. As a native of North-West England who currently lives in Scotland, I am truly excited at the prospect of having a Young Labour Chair who grasps this!
Lucille Harvey
Co-Chair, Glasgow University Labour Club |
 |
I have worked with Sam over the last few months on the London Young Labour executive and he seems to be very competant and hard working in his role as Anti-Racism Officer. I also think he will help the cause of under 19's in the Labour Party especially as he is supportive of equalising the minimum wage and setting up a under 19's officer on the Young Labour committee.
Oliver Segal
Under-19s Officer, London Young Labour |

Really impressed with the manifesto, but crucially Sam is exactly what is needed to take Young Labour forward. I'm registering tomorrow!
Aaron Porter
Vice-President (HE), NUS |

Sam has a proud record of campaigning against racism and the BNP, with Labour and Hope Not Hate. Having shared platforms with Sam, I know that he is someone with passion, intelligence and ideas. And at a time when the Labour Party is re-establishing itself as a grassroots movement, Sam is practising what he preaches - and I would like to see him carry that on as Chair of Young Labour.
David Lammy MP
Minister for Higher Education |

Now is not the time to be timid. Harding working people are suffering at the hands of a discredited neo-liberal model which enriched a few, leaving the rest of us behind. In the post credit crunch era we have to build a consensus around a system where the market is made to serve the people (not the other way round) and no matter what your occupation is, you can earn a salary you can live off and in an environmentally sustainable way. It is, after all, Young Labour members who are going to inherit the earth, long after our present leadership are gone. On each and every count Sam Tarry is your man. Having worked with him, I know he shares these aims and will organise with you to make them happen. I'd put a big tick by that man's name!

In the time I have known Sam I have been struck by his focus, ideas and sheer commitment to put into practice the things that are important. I am supporting him for this election because he has the right approach to help our party renew and rebuild in our communities.
We've seen in the past that Young Labour can make a big difference as a powerful force at election time. Sam's approach and experience of new campaigning techniques could help mobilise whole new coalitions of young people behind Labour causes.
Young Labour has a job of work in knitting together young people with ideas and ideals for the future. I literally could not think of a better-equipped person for the role of Chair than Sam. By voting for Sam Tarry, Young Labour will go a long way toward fulfilling its potential, both now and for the future.
Neil Foster

A dynamic, organizing trade unionist fascist fighting Sam Tarry will make Young Labour the real campaigning youth wing of our party it needs to be.
Andy Morton

I was inspired by Sam's passion for social justice and his enthusiasm. He is a true Labour activist and will be a great chair for Young Labour. He had inspired me to join the Labour Party and am sure will do the same with others. Wishing him all the best.
Cllr Rania Khan
London Borough of Tower Hamlets |

Young Labour must be at the heart of rebuilding the Labour Party; it should be the most dynamic and forward looking part of our Party and must be organised as a place where young members can have their say but also be at the forefront of innovative campaigning. I am supporting Sam Tarry to be the Chair of Young Labour because I know he has the vision, experience and ideas to make Young Labour a formidable campaigning force, but also a place where new ideas are welcomed and everyone's voice is heard.
Many young people look to single issue and pressure groups as the place to get involved in politics - Young Labour must become the first place young people look to make change happen and I believe Sam is the candidate to make that happen.
Sam's tireless work across the country campaigning and organising people against the BNP has been invaluable to me locally in Dagenham where he helps organise our actions and campaigns to the stop the far-right. His leadership on this helps inspire local activists and always mobilises our Trades Union branches to get involved.
I urge you to vote for Sam on April the 18th
Jon Cruddas MP

Having had direct experience over a number of years of Sam Tarry's work on the ground as an activist in the Labour movement, I have been greatly impressed by his political abilities and commitment. I am sure that Sam would bring new energy and dynamism to the role of National Chair of Young Labour.

Trade Unionism is the rock of the Labour party; it is at the heart of the Trade Union movement that political success for Labour is built. I'm proud to support Sam as one of our young GMB activists in his campaign to become the Chair of Young Labour. He understands how important the Trade Union movement is to the future success of the Labour party and I know he will fight to put young worker's rights and views at the heart of Young Labour. At a time when working people are feeling the fall out of the economic crisis and the recklessness of the bankers we need people who don't just pay lip-service but stand up and be countered when it comes to defending peoples jobs and campaigning for the policies that we need to safeguard our future. I urge you to join his campaign and organise for a real voice in our party.
Paul Kenny
General Secretary, GMB |

I am endorsing Sam Tarry because he is an outstanding and talented individual who cares passionately about London and its future. I was really impressed by his tireless work during the London elections to keep the BNP out through his efforts in supporting the Hope Not Hate campaign. He is an inspirational, organised, dynamic and hard-working figure who is an asset to the Labour Party and to London.

Now is the time for a progressive Labour movement. We are facing times of disillusion and disengagement when we have rising unemployment and a movement that is supposed to be protecting them is failing them, we have no time to waste in gaining confidence and the credibility back from the people.
In the time that I have known Sam, he has not been afraid to engage with the grassroots and take the injustices, arguments and the solutions to the people. Sam is a true campaigner and has consistently felt the urgency of having a progressive Labour movement. He is dedicated to the cause and carries and enormous sense of optimism, his ability to organise and win his case is second to none.
Ama Uzowuru
Vice-President (Welfare), NUS |

I've worked with Sam Tarry over a number of years and he's always proved great to work with. Sam is incredibly passionate about the Labour Party and our values and he puts that passion into action, which is what counts.
Sam has a broad range of expertise, from issues of demcracratic reform to international issues such as justice for Israel and Palestine.
Martin Linton MP

 |
Sam never seems to sleep. That's because not a minute passes when he's not working on the issues that matter. He has a long history of fighting for young people both within and outside of our movement, especially on the minimum wage, and within the Votes at 16 Coalition. He is a real grassroots activist, and has shown time and time again the ability to work with people from all wings of the Labour Party. He's a democrat, and he can bring us together.
Tom Miller
Youth Officer, Woking CLP |

Sam is a long-standing friend of the trade union movement. He will ensure that Young Labour works alongside the unions to promote the benefits of membership to young people.
Dan Carden
Unite Rep, Young Labour National Committee |

Sam never stops organising and campaigning. Every time I speak to him he has taken on another responsibility and another campaign. The amazing thing is that he manages to give everything 100%. His commitment to fighting the BNP is incredible. If you want a campaigning Young Labour Chair that will organise and grow the membership then vote for Sam.
Gemma Tumelty
Former President, NUS |

Sam would be an excellent Young Labour Chair. He will ensure Young Labour is the vibrant debating forum and campaigning organisation it should be. He is committed to extending Young Labour's democracy, and is best placed for engaging and building its membership.
Ben Folley
Islington North CLP |
 |
In the face of steadily declining party membership, the involvement and passion of young people is more important than ever. Working together within Compass I have seen first hand the effort that Sam puts into fighting for progressive change, and I think he would be great at inspiring a larger and more active membership of Young Labour. He is an extraordinarily hard worker, and as Chair he would put that energy to use not only in encouraging people to campaign, but in listening to young members and making sure their collective voice was heard at a national level.
Anna-Helga Horrox
Compass Management Committee |
 |
Sam embodies all the best aspects of the Labour Movement. He is a dedicated campaigner, a good trade unionist and he has taken a strong stand against the BNP. In his role as Compass Youth Chair, Sam has promoted new ideas in the Labour Party, always encouraging debate, discussion and dialogue. He has also reached out to comrades on the continent.
Ed Mayne
Youth Officer, Brentford & Isleworth CLP |
 |
If there's anyone who can get Young Labour to punch above its weight and jump into the policy and campaigning field, it's Sam. He's a real leader. Figures of authority listen to Sam and respect his hard work, but also, refreshingly, he's always had the humility to listen to people's concerns and act on their suggestions. His tireless campaigning against the BNP in East London provides ample evidence of his ability to get things done and inspire. Now more than ever, young activists need a representative who can fight for their hopes and ideas at a national level: Sam would be in his element in this role.
Luke Pearce
South West Rep, London Young Labour |
 |
I have known Sam ever since I have been active in the London Labour Party. I know he is passionate about youth engagement. Sam realises that Young Labour is a broad church, a coalition of students, people with families, trade unionists, young professionals etc. In order to build on this Labour needs to embrace the activism that young people take part in so we can have greater influence in shaping policy.
Sam supports adopting a "bottom-up" approach, believing that young grass-roots members should be the main driving force to push for change in the way politics engages with young people.
These are some of many reasons why I am endorsing Sam Tarry for Young Labour National Chair.
Bert Jones
Secretary, Ilford North CLP |
 |
Sam Tarry's work fighting against the BNP has been rightly praised. If it wasn't for Sam, the BNP would have more votes, more councillors and more chance of gaining an MEP or even an MP. His efforts really have been that vital to the cause of fighting extremism and racism wherever they are found, and he brings this passion to everything that he does. If I had a vote, I would vote for Sam: he stands up for his beliefs and for the people he represents. And he seems to find extra hours in the day above and beyond those available to mere mortals! Sam would be a fantastic Young Labour Chair - vote for him!
Mark Rusling

Sam has the drive, enthusiasm and experience to be the most effective Chair of Young Labour.
His work on the LYL executive and campaigns against the BNP show a determined commitment to our movement.
I've always felt comfortable in approaching Sam on a wide range of issues and I know he will show the same respect and consider, without prejudgement, any ideas from Young Labour members.
Cllr Kris Brown

Sam is an amazing guy - his commitment to Labour is unquestionable. He is able to communicate effectively at all levels and has a charisma that is infectious. He would make an excellent chair who would develop and promote ready for winning the fourth term for Labour.
Cllr Val Morris-Cook

Politics needs more people like Sam Tarry. It is only through the engagement and education of young people about the true nature of groups like the BNP can they truly be defeated. A strong Chair of Young Labour is needed to ensure that a fresh generation is not brainwashed by extremists. Fear and hatred must never be allowed to triumph. That is why I am supporting Sam Tarry for Chair of Young Labour, and I urge you to also.

Sam's record at Compass Youth is that of a true internationalist, forging links with fellow parties across Europe and fighting the BNP at all levels. He made valuable contributions to the manifesto consultation held by the Party of European Socialists and came to Madrid to support its adoption at the party council. He is a real progressive, has excellent campaigning and trade union experience and possesses unrivalled grassroots credentials. As a European Socialist and a Young Labour member in Brussels, I wholeheartedly endorse Sam for Young Labour Chair.

I am very impressed with the Hope not Hate campaign and if you can bring the vision and energy of that campaign to Young Labour, then it will be a step forward in the long haul needed to attract young, idealistic young people back to the Labour Party.
Dr Lynne Jones MP

I whole-heartedly support Sam for Chair of Young Labour. I have been particularly impressed with the work he has done campaigning against the BNP, a threat all too real in the East of England where I live, work and represent. There is a chance that the East of England could elect a fascist MEP in June this year and it is vital that we as a party unite in fighting this very real threat. I think that Sam could bring a fresh dynamic voice to our campaign and encourage young members to get more involved.

I'm delighted to be supporting Sam Tarry to be the first democratically elected Chair of Young Labour. These are tough times and we need to pull together: Young Labour will have a key role in the coming years as we seek to secure a fourth term and renew our party. In all the dealings I've had with Sam his integrity, passion for social justice, flair for organisation and boundless energy have shone through. He'd be an excellent choice for Young Labour Chair, and I wish him every success.

Sam's work combating the influence of the BNP and the British far-right has been both necessary and successful. He is a principled individual, particularly with his stance against the Iraq war and his work advancing civil liberties and human rights. Sam has extensive political experience for his age and is able to deliver real results. I wholeheartedly offer my support for his campaign for the Leadership of National Young Labour.
Yasmin Qureshi

Sam is a young active member of the Labour Party who, like myself, has worked effortlessly with the Hope Not Hate campaign against the BNP and fascism. His commitment and hard work in issues he believes passionately about is truly admirable. I believe he will make an excellent role model for young Labour Party members.
Cllr Imran Hussain
Deputy Leader, Bradford Council Labour Group / Chair, Bradford West CLP |

Sam is a fantastic advocate for young people: our priorities and our concerns. He listens and he responds. He engages and he acts. These are critical qualities for us in the Labour Party and wider social justice movement. I am also proud to support Sam because he is a candidate that I consider an ally and a friend. He will take Young Labour where it needs to go and he will create the space for young people and our needs to be addressed. Sam is the sensible choice for a progressive and inclusive Young Labour.
Cllr Pav Akhtar
National Race Equality Officer, UNISON |

As a campaigner and a true socialist Sam is an active campaigner not just for young people, but across the political spectrum. He will bring change to Young Labour and make it the great organisation it once was. He is a real fighter and will give progressive change.
John Wiseman

With the crisis we face, people are crying out for a new way of doing politics. It's not that young people aren't interested in politics, it's that they see no way of being able to make change happen. They might not be interested in debating internal party politics. For them, that's like driving a car from the back seat with a stick. But they do care when they can make a real difference to their lives of their families, their friends and their neighbours.
Having worked with Sam on various campaigns, this runs through everything he does. When he gets young members of Labour and the trade unions to work together, it's not to be seen as a good progressive, but to fight for fairer pay for apprentices and young people. When he campaigns against the BNP, it's not to look good in Westminster, it's to set up educational programs for children in areas that politicians don't even go to anymore. When he took the Sustainable Communities Act all the way to get the law changed, it wasn't to appear in the press, it was to give ordinary people the power to protect and improve their communities.
He knows that like him there are so many young people in the shadows trying to change the world around them. He knows that if we really valued our young members, we would give up control and give them power. Sam will bring young members out of the shadows, he will make sure Young Labour runs successful campaigns that actually change the law and he will support you to run campaigns that matter to you where you are.

I have worked with Sam numerous times over the years and in particular in the fight against the BNP. Sam has brought dedication, drive and an ability to engage with young people, party members and trade unionists to the anti-fascist movement. He is a committed campaigner and would make an excellent Chair for Young Labour where I am sure he would commit himself with the same level of enthusiasm with his commitment to fight the BNP.

Sam is the most hardworking, committed young activist I know. His work for London young Labour and Hope Not Hate goes above and beyond the call of duty - he has reputation as the man who eats breathes and sleeps campaigns. Sam is a grass roots activist who always has time for the young people he is fighting for. Sam is part of a new breed, a new way of doing politics and he will make a fantastic Young Labour Chair.
Sarah Vero

Having worked with Sam to address the threat posed to our communities in East London by the BNP, I know he is a great asset to Young Labour and indeed the Labour Movement as a whole. His passion, committment and above all good humour in campaigning for Labour and for social justice are the kinds of qualities that would make him a fantastic Chair of Young Labour.

I have always found Sam to be reliable, competent and true to his word. His commitment to the labour movement and working people is second to none. He shows the highest level integrity and would be an asset to the Young Labour. I have no doubt he would accurately represent the interest and aspiration of young people in the Labour Party.
He is one of the key drivers of the GMB Youth Forum where he has been a champion for greater recognition of the young people in the GMB and of their experiences in work and in education. He is a great advocate for challenging discrimination and fighting poverty and the BNP.

Sam Tarry is one of the most talented and exciting politicians of his generation, with the potential to be powerful force for progressive politics in Britain. His work countering far right politics and his principled opposition to the Iraq war are very commendable, as is his unrivalled commitment to core Labour principles. Sam has worked tirelessly as the Chair of Compass Youth, promoting its core aims and developing ideas for a more equal and democratic world. Sams energy would make a positive difference to National Young Labour and I believe he would make a terrific chair. I look forward to
collaborating with him in the future in order to contribute to progressive politics within the Labour party and the entire country.

The Labour Party desperately needs young activists if it is to survive. Without an effective, grassroots-focused Young Labour organisation the recruitment and retention of young activists is likely to flounder. I believe that Sam Tarry is the only candidate who has the vision and the ability to turn the organisation around and give young activists the support they so desperately need.
Peter Lamb

I strongly support Sam Tarry's campaign for chair of Young Labour, as he is proactive, organised and deeply motivated to make change. I fully endorse Sam and know that Young Labour will reap the benefits if he is victorious.

Sam Tarry is a committed and talented grass-roots campaigner who will bring a wealth of experience to the position of Young Labour Chair. Be it campaigning against racism and intolerance in society or for better rights for workers- since day one Sam has been fighting on the issues that affect working people in their daily lives and I have no doubt that he will build on this very positive work if elected. Sam is a true champion of bottom-up politics- we need more positive and energetic people like him involved in the democratic process and I have no doubt he will do a brilliant job as Young Labour Chair.

I have worked with Sam on matters both inside the Labour Party and on external bodies; I also had the pleasure last year of inviting him to address a meeting of EFCLP and he holds an open invitation from members to return. He is an energetic and driven campaigner for equality and social justice. I believe it is vitally important that we have leading the youth section of our party someone who holds dear the ideals that the international labour movement was set up to represent; Sam is that person. I have no hesitation in endorsing him and urging comrades across the country to support him.
Simon Bullough
Political Development Officer, Epping Forest CLP |

I first met Sam during a conference on the rise of the BNP. I was impressed by his experience in fighting all sorts of intolerance. He is also a true promoter of Europe. As a sister party represented in London, the French PS will be campaigning to support the Labour MEPs and I know Sam will be on our side to promote strong European social values.
Axelle Lemaire

Is Sam a hardworking, passionate, experienced, able and innnovative activist? Of course he is. But he is also one of the friendlist and most personable people in the Labour movement, which is why he should be Young Labour Chair.
David Levene
Chair, York University Labour Club |
 |
Over the last years, I had the chance to meet with Sam several time at European political events, where he was leading delegations from young British activists. I'm supporting him not only because he has all the qualities of integrity and commitment that I expect in a young leader, but also because he has a vision for the future of Young Labour in the European context. Sam knows that in the globalised world we are living in, no proper answer to the crisis can come from an isolated nation. He understands that the much needed progressive policies, based on the core values of the Labour movement, can only come from the close cooperation of parties and unions, but can only last if they are implemented both at national and European level.
Brian Booth
Vice-President, ECOSY (European Young Socialists) |

Sam has been very supportive with our Society and has been keen with the event ideas that we have put forward. He is very passionate about the work that he does and I personally believe that he is the best choice of person for this position. I hope everyone makes the right decision and votes for Sam!!!

Having read all the wonderful endorsements on this site I have to say I was stunned, but not surprised. He deserves ever single one of them. Even though we don't always see eye to eye where our political beliefs are concerned, you would be hard pushed to find anyone more motivated, passionate, enthusiastic and knowledgable than Sam where it comes to his beliefs. Someone who not only stands up for what they believe in but will never tire of fighting for it.

I am supporting Sam because there are few people better placed to take leadership and make the real changes needed from the bottom up than Sam is; he is a shining light in our movement, and if only a fraction more of the people in our party of our age had his level of integrity, understanding of real issues, and the strength of will to act on it we'd be all the stronger for it, and thus subsequently would also increase the speed in revitalizing a section of new activists to influence the party and trade union movement; rebuilding it based on traditional Labour values. I do not praise easily, but he is undoubtedly a breath of fresh air and hope in a cauldron of confusion, cyncism and opportunism; what would it be like if our youth movement was rebuilt on the basis of principles, community action; fighting genuine injustices? I can only imagine if he were to lead Young Labour, others would follow and a snowball effect would occur.

Sam has abundance of energy and drive to get things done. He has worked hard in Hope not Hate campaign to turn back the clock against BNP menace in Barking and Dagenham and also help to highlight issues for young people in Compass. With economic crises and Global recession now impacting on jobs and services and world G20 summit due in london, it will become focus point for many young workers facing redundancy or students with bleak prospect of employment after completion of their education. Sam as a Chair of Young Labour with his organising experience can turn back the far right in Hounslow as he has campaigned against BNP in east london. His leadership is also crucial on the EU elections campaign due in June 2009. Trade union rights are also important for young workers in temp or full employment. Good Luck Sam!

Sam has honesty, enthusiasm, and integrity on his side. He's a good guy, doing a good job, for a good cause. If successful, his grass-roots campaign will bring the long overdue change that young Labour so desperately needs. I'm backing Sam, I hope you do too.

I've worked alongside Sam campaigning for a fairer, more just society and for a politics where people feel their votes matter and their voices are heard. Sam is an active champion of many of the progressive causes and values that I hold dear and which brought me into the Labour party.
